Thread: Future PS4 R&C Games

I think the reboot is neat and it would be nice to get mean R&C1 Ratchet out of the canon.

Well perhaps; but it would also get LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE out of canon as well! Is it really worth wiping away all of the established canon just to change one detail?

Would it really?
It's entirely possible to have an alternate story that fits in with the rest of the games.

Indeed. This is why we need to be clear whether the new movie/game is a reboot or a remake, since the two are somewhat different things. If it's the former, it will most likely wipe away all canon. If it's the latter, then everything else will probably remain in canon after-all…

Although I'd rather have them be parallel with each other and not have games after the movie to aknowledge it as the true origin story, mainly because R&C1 has the best character interaction in the series and removing that from canon would be a big shame.

It's all a matter of an opinion at the end. Learn from Star Wars: if we don't let go of canon, we won't enjoy what's new. I'm perfectly OK with letting go of RaC canon, for a movie in it's own sort of canon.

The difference there is that the Star Wars prequels were supposed to be a part of the original canon, whereas, the new R&C movie/game is trying to rewrite canon. I'll begrudgingly accept R&C canon being changed, but there's still no excuse for the mess that was the Star Wars prequels…

Well, I hate Jar-Jar Binks, but hey, the Clone Wars were pretty solid.

No. I mean the time he was a character most people wouldn't be able to like.

Oh yeah, the times when he wasn't just a…

HERO RATCHET!

Your brand new plushy doll! Press his cute little nose-button and he'll come up with one of his incredibly original and revelatory monologues! He's got sense of humour, he's caring, he's brave, he's learning from his mistakes… And yes parents, he's got no flaws whatsoever! Hero Ratchet, he always knows what to moralize about, just ask Neftin.
No. I mean the time he was a character most people wouldn't be able to like.

That's the whole point though, you're not supposed to like Ratchet.
If you were then the ending wouldn't be nearly as powerful.

But it's a story about how Ratchet wants to live his life; when he first gets off Veldin, he's excited to see the galaxy - he doesn't really care if some guy in a suit is trying to make a planet, he just wants to explore and see the sights of the universe, but this little robot keeps bugging him to chase Drek. It's not until the end that he realises what a good thing he's done, and that he wants to be the hero from then on.
I'm not sure whether the story would work if he just wants to jump straight into being a hero as soon as he gets a spaceship….

He already wants to be a hero BEFORE he gets a spaceship.

Wait a minute, didn't he said that he wanted to be a Galactic Ranger? Galactic Rangers aren't always heroes, I think he just wanted to be a ranger fighting alongside Qwark

"Doing big things!"

"Doing big things!"

Big things aren't always a hero's work. And let's hope his personality would be different in the game, because IG said that the new game won't stick to the movie too much

Why can't it be both?
